If there is no association in the area, how could we set one up?

RFTRA and the Tenant Participation Unit can give support to anyone wanting to set up an association including: advice, information, training and visits to existing associations

  • Start by talking to your neighbours, to see if anyone else is interested in joining with you to start an association.

If you have ideas about what you would like to achieve, RFTRA may be able to give advice and share the experiences of another association which as tried something similar. If you are not sure what you would like to achieve then come and find out what other associations have done before. RFTRA can also give you information about setting up a constitution (rules) for your organisation and roles for members of a committee.

What if no one else in my area is interested in starting an association?

community voice

You could become a Community Voice.

This would mean that you could be a point of contact between the people in your street/block of flats and others, such as the council. There are still opportunities to network and to receive information and training from the Council.
